HOW TO PLAY POKER
Poker is a game in which players are dealt a hand of cards (you might know this from Kakegurui, the Rounders movie or Red dead redemption 2), and then bet on whether your hand is the best. There are 10 basic combinations of 5-card poker hands you need to know in order to play poker. This is the order from lowest to the highest combo:

1. High card
2. One pair
3. Two pairs of cards
4. Three of a kind
5. Straight - which is five cards, in sequential order
6. Flush - 5 cards of the same suit in any order
7. Full House - a pair and a three of a kind
8. Four of a kind
9. Straight Flush - which is five cards, in sequential order, of the same suit
10. Royal Flush - a straight containing a 10, jack, queen, king and ace.

GET STARTED WITH HOLDEM POKER
Here’s #howto play poker. The most common style of poker is Texas Hold’em in which every player is dealt two cards. While each variation of poker has its own rule set, they are basically the same when it comes to the setup. You see your own cards but keep them a secret from the other players. Players then decide whether to take part in the round or fold their cards. To keep the game going, we have the two roles of small- and big blind. These two players are forced to bet a minimum amount - often small. In this case, 10 and 20.

When it’s your turn, you can choose to either fold, call or bet. Folding means you give up your cards and sit this round out. Calling means you want to participate in this round and put down the required amount to match the other players. Raising means you not only match the other players amount, but raise the cost of further participation in the round.

When all bets are placed, the chips are gathered in what we call the ‘pot’ - the aggregated price for winning the round.

THE FLOP
Three cards are then drawn and placed on the table for everyone to see.
This is called the ‘flop’. The cards on the table are called ‘community cards’ and they are important, as your ultimate combination of cards is the best possible 5 card combination of both the cards in your hand and the cards on the table.

Players then decide whether or not they wish to take further part in this round, with the biggest bet defining the cost of further participation.

TURN & RIVER
Another card is drawn from the deck and placed for everyone to see.
This is called the ‘turn’.

Players fold, call or bet again before a fifth and final community card is drawn from the deck. The ‘river’. The round is almost over, and players make their final bets.

At this point, no further action can be made - and players show their cards to see who’s got the better combination of the 2 cards in their hand and the 3 cards on their table.

In this case, both players have pairs, but our pair is higher, and so we win.
The winner collects the chips in the pot and cards are then shuffled and dealt for a new round.

And of course the roles of small- and big blinds change clockwise to the next players. We hope this guide helps you figure out how to play poker.

Hey, I'm Nicky Numbers, Professional Poker Player, and today, I'm going to talk to you about the rules of poker. Hold em is a game where each player starts with two down cards. However, before they even deal, there are two players that are forced to put out bets, known as the blinds. There is typically a small blind, and a big blind, and these are forced bets that players have to put out, before the hand is even dealt. Each hand, the blinds move from player to player, around the table, so that it's fair. After the blinds are posted, which means the blinds have been put up, and actually are out in front of the players, the hand begins. The dealer gives each player two cards, one at a time.

So, the cards are dealt, and each player is given two down cards. They then have to choose whether to stay in the hand, or fold. A round of betting then takes place starting immediately after the big blind, which is known as under the gun, because they're forced to act first. Players choose to either stay in the hand by calling the big blind, meaning they put in the same amount of chips, or increasing the size of the wage of this round, often based on their hole cards, by raising. Alternatively, and most commonly, players decide not to participate in the hand, put in no further chips into the pot, and fold their cards. Once all the players have acted, three cards are dealt, known as the flop. These are community cards that any player in the hand can use. After the three community cards, known as the flop, appear, another round of betting takes place, except this time, there's no forced bets, like there are pre-flop, with the blinds.

Players have two options, they can check, or they can bet. Checking is when you choose to let the other players act before you, typically indicated by saying, "I check," or tapping the table. If all the players in the hand check, then the next card comes, which nobody put money to see. The next card, is known as the turn. If instead of checking, one of the players had bet, then they would force the other players in the hand to commit more chips in order to continue, otherwise, those players would have to fold, and the player who made the bet would be awarded the pot. Otherwise, if one or more players call the bet, the hand will continue to the turn. The turn is another additional community card, that unlike the flop, comes off as one card, instead of three. However, like the flop, a betting round takes place in the same way. If all the players in the hand check on the turn, or there's a bet, and it's called, the final community card comes, known as the river. The river is another single community card after which a round of betting takes place, just like it did on the flop, and the turn.

The only difference is, that after this round of betting, if two or more players are still in the hand, then a showdown occurs, where all the players still in the hand, after the river, show their cards, and the dealer awards the pot to the best five card hand. So, there you go, the down and dirty rules to poker. Like Mike Sexton says, Poker Hall of Famer, and Ambassador for the World Poker Tour, "It takes a minute to learn, and a lifetime to master."

How to Play Poker Poker is a game of strategy. You'll need to constantly read the other players to decide when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, when to bluff, and when to call someone else’s bluff. There are many variations of poker, but Texas Hold'Em is the most popular. While each variation has its own rules, the basics of the game are always the same. Before you get started playing any type of 5-card poker, you’ll need to learn the 10 ways to win. In order from lowest to highest, they are:

1. High card.
2. Pair of cards, like two 2s.
3. Two pairs of cards, like two 5s and two 9s.
4. Three of a kind, like three 4s.
5. Straight, which is five cards in sequential order. For example, a player might have a 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of any suit.
6. Flush, which is when a player has five cards of the same suit in any order. For example, a player might have a 2, 7, 10, Jack, and Queen of spades.
7. Full house, which is when a player has a pair and a three of a kind.
8. Four of a kind, like all four Aces.
9. Straight flush, which is when you have five cards in sequential order of the same suit. For example, a player might have a 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of clubs.
10. Royal Flush, which is a straight flush containing a 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace.

If two people have the same hand, the person with the higher cards wins.

Here's #howto play Texas Hold’Em:
• You’ll first need to bet your “ante,” which is your “buy in bet” to play the round. The ante is usually a small bet, like $1 or $5, and it’s decided by the table.
• Once everyone has bet their ante, the dealer will deal two cards to each player. Keep these cards secret from everyone else.
• Now, every player will take a look at their cards and choose whether or not to bet. Whenever there’s a betting round, you can choose to “fold,” which means not playing this round, “check,” which means matching their bet, or “raise,” which means adding more money to the betting pool.
• Players that are unwilling to “check” a bet have to fold; and if everyone but one player “folds,” that player wins!
• Once everyone has bet, the dealer will reveal three cards. These cards are known as the “flop.” When you see the flop, start planning what hand you want to make, keeping in mind that there are still two more cards to be revealed. For example, are your cards both diamonds, and did the flop include two diamond cards? In that case, you might want to aim for a flush, which is when you have five cards of the same suit.
• After the flop, everyone has the chance to bet again, before the dealer reveals the next card, which is the “turn.”
• Bet again if you want to, then the dealer will reveal the “river,” which is the last card.
• At this point, you’ll see a total of 7 cards: two in your hands, and five on the table. Now, players will bet once last time, then everyone will reveal their hand. Your goal is to create the highest hand possible out of those seven cards, even if it means only using one card from your hand and four cards from the table.
• The player with the best hand wins!
