Epic Games today announced the next iteration of its game engine, the Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), with a stunning demo running on the PlayStation 5. Epic says the demo shows off what next-generation game consoles will truly be capable of once developers have full access to creative tools like UE5 and the capability to squeeze the maximum out of new hardware and software baked into Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. “The graphics speak for themselves. And Epic has always pushed the bleeding edge of what’s possible,” CEO Tim Sweeney tells The Verge. “Our goal isn’t just to bring more features to developers. The hardest problem in game development right now is building high quality games takes enormous time and cost. So we want to make developers’ lives easier and more productive.” To show off UE5’s capabilities, Epic put together a demo running on a developer version of PS5 hardware and captured the output. The results showcase incredible visual quality, combined with the detail and photo-realistic lighting Epic promises its new tools will deliver. According to Kim Libreri, Epic’s chief technology officer, “the next-gen consoles are going to give consumers a quantum leap, and UE5 is another leap on top of that.”

Here is our first Look at PS5 Dualsense Controller Hands On! Geoff Keighley hosted a live PS5 DualSense controller hands on as part of his Summer Games Fest event. PS5 DualSense hands on features such as haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers, before taking the features for a NEW PS5 Gameplay Demo for Astro's Playroom. This is a Playstation 5 Controller Hands On Video, demonstrating the PS5 Controller Hands On Live, including NEW PS5 Gameplay 4K. The Dualsense controller hands on also includes a comparison: PS4 controller vs PS5 controller in size, weight and feel. The Playstation 5 DualSense controller is the new gamepad we'll be using with Sony's PlayStation 5 console, when it releases in late 2020. First revealed earlier this year, the DualSense is a break in tradition for Sony, dropping the old DualShock name while sporting a futuristic two-tone design and curved shape. As with the PS5 itself, its design has proven striking but divisive.

The DualSense controller looks like the best one yet from Sony with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. While the graphics of the PS5 aren’t going to be a huge step up from the PS4, it’ll definitely have improved visuals. The Digital Edition gives gamers who buy all their games digitally a cheaper option. 3D Audio will improve the sound quality of games and expandable storage will give gamers even more storage. Virtual reality will be coming eventually and backwards compatibility isn’t as important as you think. Next gen is going to be incredible.

While the Sony PlayStation has changed so much over the last 3 decades, one thing that hasn’t changed is the company’s history of winning. Nearly every PlayStation console that has been released has won that generation’s console war and this isn’t just a coincidence either. Sony has mastered the art of war and it started all the way back in 1994 when they released the original PlayStation; the console that was only created out of a dispute with a competitor that didn’t go Sony’s way. Sony has come a long way since then and we’ll let you know how they’ve consistently found a way to come out on top.

That dispute we just mentioned was between Sony and Nintendo. To keep things short, Nintendo wanted to make an add-on for the SNES that would allow the console to play games on CDs as well as on cartridges. Nintendo wasn’t happy with everything Sony was asking for, so they decided to go in a different direction with Philips, creating the Philips-CDI, which missed the mark. If this dispute didn’t happen, who knows if the PlayStation would’ve ever seen the light of day? Things happen for a reason and the PS1 was an instant hit, paving the way for Sony in the video game console market.
