A protest calling for the removal of the statue of Victorian imperialist Cecil Rhodes at Oxford University takes place in Oxford on Tuesday, June 9.

The renewed call for the statue's removal, organised by ‘Rhodes Must Fall’ together with Oxford student groups and local community members, comes after Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters pulled down a statue of slave trader Edward Colston in Bristol on Sunday, June 7, during a demonstration sparked by George Floyd's killing in Minnesota.

The toppling of the statue follows the pulling down of several Confederate statues during Black Lives Matter protests in the US.
